what can be the causes of turbo smoke? on my last turbo the car smoked sometimes at idle but there is no play atall in any of the shafts. the are all solid and so is everything else around the exhaust area of the turbo.

Hows it goin Jimmy, lomg time no hear fae. Still no luck swappin the alloys yet. Probably the seals mate. But the ihi turbos are usually extremly reliable. What colour is the smoke. Is yer water ok, when you pull the dipstick is there any small water globules on the dipstick. Is the oil level ok. Its not been changed recently and been overfilled a wee bit....

are you sure its turbo smoke buddy, if there is no excess play in the turbo shaft then i would be checking compressions for a possible head gasket leak

if there is any trace of water coming out the exhaust, which they all do, taste it and if its sweet tasting you have a gasket problem

Awryt guys, the smoke has stopped now that ive changed the turbo so i assume it was the old turbo to blame, i was lead to believe that if the turbo seals where gone then the shaft would have play in it, but its solid. The car now pulls a bit better, it felt hesitant with the old turbo.

John ave now baught a set of the standard alloys with new toyo proxes for £250 which a think is a bargain, a guy emailed me to swap 2 months ago but never got back to me, then out the blue he decided to email me last week, you've no idea how delighted i was to tell him to stick it.

The guy i baught the wheels from has a subaru breakers out in bellshill, its called AA car breakers. He has everything from an evo 4 to a p1. He's currently stripping a yellow sti type r if anyone is interested.

cheers.

breaking a yellow type r that should be the death penalty lol

the shaft on the turbo should never be solid buddy there should always be a small bit of play for heat exspansion and oil, there must be a reason why the turbo has went as its not that common a problem on that turbo
